About this place
A simple bowl of kake soba topped with squid-tentacle tempura makes a memorable combination at Touge no Soba. Visitors have said that the thin noodles pair well with the straightforward-tasting broth, and enjoyed the flavour of the tempura and the amount of spring onion. You could start with a hot bowl and tempura, or add a cold soba dish to savour the noodles on their own.
Alongside squid-tentacle tempura, the menu lists kakiage (mixed-vegetable fritter), maitake mushroom tempura, garland chrysanthemum tempura and aubergine tempura. One diner noted that the kakiage had a light batter and went well with the mild broth. Another visitor found it rather small, so it may be best to choose tempura for what you would like alongside your soba rather than for its portion size.
For something refreshing, consider chilled kake soba or zaru soba. Other cold options include chilled tanuki soba, chilled kitsune soba, and a bowl topped with mountain vegetables, mushrooms and grated daikon. These offer a choice of toppings beyond the familiar plain mori and zaru soba. The menu lists mori soba at 400 yen and zaru soba at 500 yen, with large and double portions also available.
Breakfast is served, and the restaurant opens from 6:30 on weekdays. The counter makes it a convenient stop for a quick morning or lunchtime meal. Payment is cash only, and the restaurant is closed on Sundays.
